46th Annual Walter Hagen Memorial Golf Tournament – August 4


Cobblestone Creek Country Club - The American Cancer Society will hold the 46th Annual Walter Hagen Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, August 4, 2014. Last year, more than $70,000 was raised for cancer research, public education, patient advocacy and service. This year, 100% of the tournament proceeds will benefit the B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge Hospitality House on South Goodman Street in Rochester. They provide free lodging for cancer patients and low-cost housing for non-cancer patients and caregivers traveling long distances for treatment at Rochester area hospitals and treatment centers.

Open Door Mission Week - August 4-8


The week of August 4th is declared Open Door Mission Week! WROC Channel 8 will employ all departmental resources to education the market about the Open Door Mission, promoting their commitment to the community. The Open Door Mission is a Christian Rescue Mission founded to provide for the spiritual and physical needs of the impoverished and homeless men, women and children of Rochester, NY by restoring hope and changing lives. Wegmans LPGA Championship - August 11-17


Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, NY was founded in 1923, and is a classic layout design by renowned architect Donald Ross. Monroe was recently ranked #80 in GolfWeek Magazine's Top 100 Classic Courses in America. The Golf Course features majestic, tree lined fairways, small greens and numerous hazards that are all indicative of a great Donald Ross layout. The 6,717 yard layout will surely be a "Major" test for the best Women golfers in the world in August. Click here for more information.

6th Annual Richard Guon Golf Tournament - August 18th


The tournament honors the memory of Richard M. Guon for his involvement with the Rochester Broadway Theatre League, having served on the Board of Directors since 1991, and as Chairman from 2004-2007.  He believed in RBTL’s mission to provide opportunities for all people to experience, understand and enjoy the best in arts and performance through its education programs, events and activities.  He had a passion for arts education and for providing students in the community with a means of being involved with performing arts.  Richard’s motto was “It’s all about the kids”.  Proceeds from the Tournament benefit RBTL’s arts education programs, enabling hundreds of students to participate in the programs in Richard’s name each year.  A luncheon, tournament play, silent and live auction and dinner reception round out the day. Fairport Food and Music Festival - August 22-23


The Fairport Music & Food Festival is a music festival held in Fairport on Liftbridge Lane near the Box Factory Building, which features music and food from local restaurants. It promises to be a fun filled day that offers music on three stages from more than 20 bands and entertainers, tons of kids' activities, and over 20 area restaurants for great food. Scholastic Arts Spotlight

Scholastic-Arts-Logo-small.pngThe Scholastic Arts Spotlight Award program recognizes outstanding high school juniors and seniors in music, visual arts, dance, and theater in the Greater Rochester Area.  This program spotlights students? accomplishments and talent in an exclusive WROC Channel 8 television campaign,  highlighted by news features and a follow up on-air promo.  Each student featured also receives a $100 savings account from Canandaigua National Bank and 2 tickets to a play at Geva.  The SAS culminates in a reception for all students featured during the school year, and an award in the form of a sculpture created by a local artist.  The committee selects students that represent the very best not only as practicing artists, but by how their personal actions demonstrate the true value of the arts in our community.
