I had the pleasure of introducing Alyssa Partington and Lauren Buddendeck. Alyssa is a junior at Victor Senior High. Lauren is a freshman. They have never met, but both thought Social Studies teacher Stephanie Belding should receive a Golden Apple Award.
"I thought that was kind of cool because I didn't know there was going to be another person that was going to nominate her," Alyssa said.
"I thought that was kind of cool we both thought so highly of her," Lauren said.
In a way, Ms. Belding has been preparing for this moment her whole life.
"I always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I have three young sisters, so we always used to play school and I just love teaching," she said.
Stephanie Belding appreciates each student for who they are.
"Every student is different. I treat them all differently. You try to get to know them and how they learn best," she said.
Alyssa and Lauren are unique people. Stephanie inspires them both.
"I wasn't sure about taking AP World and my mom convinced me to stay in it and try it. Now Ms. Belding has made it so easy and it's my favorite class now," Lauren said.
"It's changed a lot for me. When I have her on the days I have her I just love going into her classroom," Alyssa said.
"I'm just so surprised and honored. This is wonderful. This is the best thing," Belding said.
Below are the letters Alyssa and Lauren wrote to News 8 about Ms. Belding:
Dear News 8,
I am an 11th grader at Victor Central School. I would like to nominate Ms. Belding for WROC-TV Golden Apple
Award. She is a Social Studies teacher. She also coaches modified girls lacrosse and is the advisor for Key
Club which has over 250 students.
Ms. Belding was my Global History teacher in ninth grade. It was my favorite class and I had a high average.
She understands my learning style and provides lots of support and encouragement. She was always available after school to provide extra help for my tests. She has also been my teacher for Learning Lab in 10th and 11th grade. She helps me with my homework for all my classes now which allows me to have great results.
The Global History Regents Exam covers two years of content. Unfortunately, I needed to take this exam again in August. Ms. Belding helped me prepare and my score went up ten points. She also held a three day prep course in August that helped other students too.
I’ve had lots of great teachers at VCS, but she has been the best because she encourages me with all of my classes and school activities. I also enjoy working with her on activities with Key Club that help our local community. I will never forget what she has done for me and wanted to recognize her for being a great teacher and mentor. Thanks for your consideration,
Dear News 8,
I spent the summer fighting with my mother about taking AP world this year. She knew that I was capable of the class, but I greatly feared taking a college level class as a freshman. This was a subject that I had very little interest in as well. Ms. Belding does such an outstanding job at making this a very interesting subject for me and presents it in a way that makes it very understandable. She will not move on with the topic until she knows that everyone has a good understanding and feels comfortable and confident to move on to the next subject. In addition, she has a genuine interest in her students. She even finds the time to ask what's going on in our lives and to attend our sporting events. She is a smart, caring and talented teacher.
