Athena Comeback Falls Short Against Jamestown

Red Raiders carry early 20-point lead to 61-52 win
Jamestown carried a blistering start to their Boys Class AA Regional with Greece Athena to a 61-52 win on Saturday at Buffalo State.

The Red Raiders opened the game with a 20-5 lead after the opening quarter. Jamestown also led 29-9 early in the second quarter. Even after that incredible opening eight minutes, Athena outscored Jamestown in every subsequent quarter but still lost by 9.

Jamestown's Zack Panebianco was outstanding with a game-high 34 points on 10-of-20 shooting. He also knocked down four 3-pointers and had 8 rebounds. Quinn Lee Yaw was the only other player for Jamestown in double figures. He finished with 10.

Athena showed tremendous resiliency in trying to comeback but couldn't get the right combination of buckets and defensive stops to get over the hill. Anthony Lamb led the Trojans with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He also picked up a big gash on his right eyelid in the second half that required several touchups from the training staff.

Jamestown will take on Union-Endicott of Section IV in the Boys Class AA State Semifinal on Saturday, March 15th. Tipoff of that game is slated for a 12:30pm start at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
