Athena Pulls Away From Fairport For 2nd Straight Title

Hamilton drops 29 points in 72-60 Trojans win
(1)Greece Athena was labeled as one of the Section V favorites early in the season. The Trojans met every challenge and on Saturday lifted their 7th sectional title in school history, beating (2)Fairport 72-60 in the Class AA final at Blue Cross Arena.

Greece Athena currently sits at 21-1, with their one loss coming to Olean from Section VI.

Athena forward Deion Hamilton was a load too big for Fairport to handle. The senior finished with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and the tournament MVP trophy.

Zac DiSalvo continued his strong play from the outside, finishing with 14 points. Jay Sarkis was right behind him at 13 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Peter Florin was Athena's only other played in double-figures with 10 points.

Fairport trailed for most of the contest but kept it close throughout. Adam Pries was the Red Raiders leading scorer with 14 points. Matt Keenan once again had a strong game off the bench, finishing with 12 points. Dan Masino also played well off the bench, putting up 11 points.

Greece Athena's next game is on Saturday, March 8th at Buffalo State in the Western, NY regional. The Class AA game is scheduled for an 8:45 tipoff.
