Eagles Hold Off Strong Fight From Athena

Irondequoit needs 16-4 second half run for comeback win
(3)Irondequoit trailed by five points late in the third quarter, but scored the final seven points of the period and nine of the first 13 in the 4th to take control of their Class AA quarterfinal with (6)Athena. The Trojans held on to win 46-42 on Cooper Avenue Friday night. 

Abby White led all scorers with 19 points--including four three-pointers--for Irondequoit. Jen Reininger added 11 for the Eagles. 

Carina Pringle topped the Trojans with 11 points. Athena used an 11-3 run to close out the first half and take a 27-24 advantage to the locker room. It could have been more, but Mercedes Young had a big swat at the buzzer to keep Irondequoit within three.

Greece led 33-28 with under three minutes to play in the third before Irondequoit turned the game around. 

The Eagles move on to Monday's semifinals at Pittsford Sutherland. Irondequoit will face (2)Rush-Henrietta, who handled (7)Fairport 59-39.
