Fairport Wins 3OT Thriller Over McQuaid

Wiedemer's goal sends Red Raiders to Class A Final
In the game of the season in Section V, it was Fairport coming out on top over McQuaid 3-2 in triple-OT of their Class A semifinal from MCC on Thursday night.

Quinn Wiedemer scored the game's final goal 2:11 into the 3rd OT. Wiedemer was jammed along the sideboards but managed to break free and flipped a backhand shot over McQuaid's Tim Brei's pad to give the Red Raiders the victory.

Fairport also scored the game's first two goals. Each came in the first period on tallies from Brent Mazurkiewicz and Cody Howatt.

McQuaid got on the board in the 2nd period on a Michael Campbell rebound-putback. The Knights began throwing everything they had at Fairport's Ethan Kaiser but couldn't find an equalizer until the final minute of the game.

Christian Leonardi flipped a pass to Michael lane from the top of the faceoff circle. Lane didn't make great contact on the puck, but it somehow slid past Kaiser to score the game's tying goal with 50 seconds left in regulation.

Both goalies were outstanding during the overtime sessions. Brei and Kaiser each stopped shots from point-blank range.

Fairport will take on Greece Thunder in the Class A Sectional Final on Sunday, February 23rd at 4:00 from Ritter Arena at R.I.T.
