Hilton Claims Close Contest With Gates-Chili

Graupman's 2 FTs with 8.7 left gives Cadets 59-58 win
Cameron Graupman may only be a sophomore but the Hilton guard exhibited poise beyond her years on Friday night.

With 8.7 seconds remaining, Graupman converted two free throws to lift Hilton to a 59-58 win over Gates-Chili.

The Cadets led for most of ht enight but saw a 7-point lead with 4 minutes to go evaporate pretty quickly at the hands of Gates Chili and their star forward Cierra Dillard. The senior finished the night with 34 points.

The lead changed hands four times in the final minute of the game.

Hilton was in front until Dillard hit two free throws with 37.5 seconds left to make it 56-54 Gates-Chili. On the Cadets next possession, Amy Hasenauer knocked down a 3-pointer to put Hilton in front 57-56 with 26.1 remaining.

Dillard came back down off a miss and made a layup with 8.7 to go to give Gates-Chili a 58-57 lead. However, inexplicably, Gates-Chili fouled Graupman on the in-bounds pass, sending her to the free-throw line.

Graupman never hesitated and sank both shots to put Hilton back in the lead.

Gates-Chili had one last chance as the clocked reached 0.0, but Dillard's runner in the paint went off iron and Hilton ran out the clock.

Hilton's leading scorer was Amy Hasenauer who had 16 points. Raine Gardner had a career-high 15 points and Graupman finished with 13.

Dillard's 34 points has her now 7 points away from 2,000 for her career. She'll likely reach that mark on Monday night when Gates-Chili hosts Brockport.

Hilton moves to 11-6 with the win while Gates-Chili falls to 12-5.
