Kearney Rolls To 3rd Straight Crown

Kings beat Batavia ND in rare meeting of state champs
BriAsia Mason topped (1)Kearney with 15 points as the Kings had no trouble defeating (2)Batavia Notre Dame 55-31 in the Class B2 championship game Saturday at Rush-Henrietta High School.

Emmanuela Edoka had 11 points and 13 rebounds to earn tournament MVP. Arianne Smith added 10 points and Kharysma Bryant scored nine for the, now, three-time defending champs.

Melanie Taylor and Shea Norton led the Irish with eight points apiece.

Kearney led 12-3 after the first quarter and by 12 at halftime. They allowed the Irish only 14 points in the entire second half to salt the game away.

It was a rare matchup of defending state champions. Batavia Notre Dame was best in the state in Class D last year. Kearney the best in New York at Class C. Both moved up to Class B this year to face better competition.

The Kings move on to Tuesday's state play-in game against Waterloo. The Indians held off Midlakes 48-38 on Saturday.

Game time for the play-in contest is 6pm at Canandaigua Academy.
