Strong 2nd Half Sends East to WNY Regional

Orientals outscore Geneva 29-15 over final 16 minutes in Class A play-in game
East High showed why their speed and skill will be a tough out in the state tournament. The Orientals wore down Geneva, outscoring the Panthers 29-15 in the second half en route to a 61-48 win in the Class A Western, NY regional play-in game on Wednesday night at Rush-Henrietta.

Dontay Caruthers once again with an all-around game, finishing with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and only 2 turnovers for East. Angel Liraanzo posted 20 points for the Orientals including two back-breaking 3-pointers in the 4th quarter. East shot 50% on 12-for-24 shooting in the second half to pull away from the Panthers.

Geneva led 33-32 at halftime thanks in part to their play down low. The Panthers shot 12-for-22 (54.5%) from 2-point territory in the 1st half. However, they only went 5-for-28 (17.9%) in the 2nd half and 0-for-12 from 3 point land. Ray Sims Jr. had another productive game with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Terrell Johnson Jr. also had a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 boards.

East High will take on McKinley of Section VI in the Class A Western, NY Regional on Saturday, May 8th at 6:30pm from Buffalo State College.
