Sutherland Narrowly Makes State Final

Ebangwese comes up big late in four point win
Santita Ebangwese scored the last four points in the game to break a 39-all tie and lead Sutherland to a 43-39 win over Maine-Endwell in the Class A state semifinals Friday afternoon at Hudson Valley CC near Albany.

Ebangwese drained a hook with just over a minute remaining to put the Knights up by a bucket and then stopped the next M-E possession with a steal. After a Sutherland miss, the Spartans missed an open three-pointer for the lead with less than ten seconds to play. Ebangwese caught a home run pass and scored to seal the win.

Abby Judd tied the game at 39 on layup with just over three minutes to play.

Sutherland limited Maine-Endwell to just four fourth quarter points to help rally from a 35-31 deficit after three quarters. The Knights got the first four points of the quarter, tying the game at 35 on Liz Greendyke's pair of free throws. The Spartans briefly re-took the lead, but Bayley Axelrod answered with two more free throws to even the game at 37.

Pittsford held M-E to just four fourth quarter points.

Ebangwese finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Greendyke chipped in with 12.

The Knights will play for all the Class A marbles Saturday at 7pm against Jamesville-Dewitt from Syracuse's Section III.
