Chip Mulligan and the rest of Northside Johnny have been living the music dream since their middle school days in Fairport.

"Actually three of us started playing in our basements about 20 years ago and we were joined by the others along the way," he said.

After taking a little hiatus, the group is marking their 10th anniversary. What better way to celebrate than to play in their hometown at Fairport's Oktoberfest. For the first time, the Federation of German American Society has endorsed the festival.

"They'll be there in the lederhosen and they'll be doing their German dances, and fun games for adults like the beer slide and stein holding contest," festival producer Scott Winner said.

On Friday and Saturday nights, Oktoberfest turns into "Rocktoberfest." Along with the German food, beer and dancing, there is tons of live music. Everything from local favorites like the Fairport Fire Department band and the Perinton concert band during the day, to jumbo shrimp and Northside Johnny at night. That is just what these long-time Fairport friends plan on doing.

"We always talk about we would like to be out there in walkers playing. somewhere like Florida, or Fairport," Mulligan said.

The festival takes place October 4th and 5th at the Fairport Junction Festival site. Tickets are just $5. For more information, click here.
