A man at a Pittsford restaurant accidentally shot himself and a person with whom he was eating shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Department said John Cassata, 70, was eating at the Cottage Hotel of Mendon when his gun accidentally went off, striking him in the hand and ankle. The round also struck his friend Charles Raab, 67, in the ankle. They were both sitting at the table together. Both men were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Cassata decided to show his firearm to Raab when he accidentally discharged the gun. There were other patrons in the restaurant at the time of the incident, but nobody else was injured.

The incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
