Avoiding back pain from autumn yard work

Fitness expert Jodi Stern of Pilates Plus offered up some advice to avoid back pain while performing autumn yard work Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.
Fitness expert Jodi Stern of Pilates Plus offered up some advice to avoid back pain while performing autumn yard work Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.

Stern said you might want to take a walk to warm up before beginning, and make sure you cool down as well.

It's most important to avoid leaning forward no matter what the work is, mowing grass, pulling weeds or raking leaves.  When raking, she also advised to switch sides periodically to keep from overworking one set of muscles.
