Police found the body of an elderly man in an enclosed porch on Latta Rd. Wednesday evening. The location is not far from where William Brodner was last seen.
The 89-year old didn't show up to breakfast at the Fleming Point retirement community Tuesday morning, prompting worry from the staff. He was last seen at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday by residents.
"Been searching since we got the call at 11am. We have several search and rescue teams including dogs from several counties," said Lt. Patrick Welch, Greece Police.
The Search Team 5-1 volunteers drove in from the Albany-area on Christmas day.
" I left at two this morning to be out here by seven. It's just rewarding," said Vernon Brownell, Search Team 5-1.
They spent time canvassing neighborhoods and backyards near the retirement community.
"We do the best we can to get the closure no matter what the outcome is," said Brownell.
The North Greece Fire Department served as a command post where law enforcement and volunteers mapped search areas and coordinated teams.
A state police helicopter also went into action.
"Our concern is with the weather and particularly because with his age, their is a significant concern for his safety. So we are doing everything we can possibly do to locate him," said Lt. Welch.
Police say Brodner does not drive and may have onset dementia.
Family in the area have not been in touch with him.
"The family is obviously very concerned because they don't have any information as to why he would have left," said Lt. Welch.
If you have any information about Brodner's whereabouts please contact 911 or Greece Police at: 585-865-9200
Police say it is too early to know if the body found is Brodner.
