Bogus Calls Draw Henrietta Residents Out To Weigh In On Proposed Casino

There is no set plan to bring a casino to Henrietta, but residents are already weighing in.
There is no set plan to bring a casino to Henrietta, but residents are already weighing in.

Developer David Flaum is in talks with the Seneca Nation to put a casino in the town, but there is no set plan. Residents were misinformed about what would happen at Thursday's town board meeting. Many of them got multiple robo-calls from a national anti-casino group telling them the casino proposal was on the agenda. It was not, but newly-elected supervisor Jack Moore still let them have their say.

"I think there are a lot of bad results from gambling and gambling casinos. I think it would be bad for Henrietta," David Valone said.

"It's their town. If they've got a problem we want to hear about it so we can get ahead of this thing if we can," Moore said.

Moore said he is leaning against a casino, but will keep an open mind. We have no word on the status of the Seneca Nation's plan to open a Monroe County casino. Medley Centre is also in talks with the nation. Any plan would need multiple approvals from local, state and federal governments.
