Bristol Mountain has officially opened, and it is a little earlier than expected.

The cold and snowy weather means big business for Bristol Winter Resort. Skiers hit the slopes for the first time this season. This year, the resort is celebrating its 50th year.

"We started here when I was eight years old. My father decided to teach the whole family how to ski. People were pulling up off Route 64 to lookk at the artificial snow. It was that unique," Bill Mulvey said.

"I always try to get there the first day. I wouldn't miss it. Since I retired and I have the time, I just love to be here," Frank Jablonski said.

"I couldn't tell you. Last night I just kept thinking about it and saying 'I'm going to be on the mountain tomorrow with everybody else," Ken Maiuri said.

Bristol Mountain opened earlier than expected for its 50th season. It has been six years since the resort opened in the month of November.

"This really means a lot to people to ski before Thanksgiving. I really don't recall in my 50 seasons here skiing before Thanksgiving," Mulvey said.

"They are very, very good. It's one of the best opening days I have seen. Although we only have one laid down it's in pretty darn good shape for opening day," Jablonski said.

"Most people don't realize about a foot of snow will groom down to about one inch so we still have some work to do," marketing director Drew Broderick said.

While most people are not excited about the upcoming snowstorm, you will not find one unhappy skier.

"I love it. Why not? Nothing better than fresh snow," Jablonski said.

"There is no one here that is bummed about that snowstorm. We are so excited we cannot wait," Broderick said.

Over the years, Bristol Mountain Winter Resort has become a major tourist attraction. Skiers come from Cananda, Pennsylvania and even Ohio.

The night season will open on December 13th, which means Bristol will remain open until 10 p.m.
