Brockport Walks Off to State Quarterfinals

Brockport coach Chris Carr tops sister Amie from Fairport
The battle of brother and sister could not have been more lopsided. Fairport softball coach Amie Carr had beaten her brother and Brockport coach Chris Carr all 11 times the two schools had faced off. That all turned around on Saturday with Brockport winning 2-1 in 11 innings in the Class AA softball state qualifier.

The Blue Devils were trailing in the bottom of the 7th before Sam Jurhs drove in the game-tying run to send it to extra innings. In the eighth, Taylor Zinkiewich singled up the middle, scoring Sophia Avery from second base to win the game.

For the second straight day, Julia DiMartino pitched a complete game for Brockport. She finished the afternoon with 12 strikeouts, one run and four hits.

Brockport will play on Tuesday June 2 at 2:00 against Clarence at SUNY Brockport.
