The chairman and founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times was honored for his community efforts that he makes every day.

The FBI awarded Gary Mervis with the Director's Community Leadership Award. It is given to individuals who make extraordinary contributions to their communities across the country. Mervis was selected because he is chairman of the Project Exile advisory board, which works to get illegal guns off the street.

"In this community which is my home community, one homicide is too much. But it's important people realize there are alot of dedicated people giving the best they've got to turn this thing around," he said.

Project Exile was started in Rochester back in 1998. The Director's Community Leadership Award was formally created back in 1990.
