16 Month Old Baby's Death in Jamestown Ruled a Homicide

Investigators say Nayla Hodnett died of blunt force trauma.
Police in Jamestown are calling the death of a 16 month-old baby girl a homicide, and are now investigating to determine who’s responsible for her death. Police on Friday identified the girl as Nayla Hodnett, who was taken to the hospital by her mother Wednesday night, but did not survive her injuries.

Investigators say Nayla died of blunt force trauma. The child lived on Newland Avenue in Jamestown with her mother. Police say the mother’s boyfriend occasionally stayed at the home. Police are speaking with the child’s mother and her boyfriend, among many others in the course of their investigation. Jamestown police have also talked with about a dozen family members and acquaintances.

The child was taken to the hospital by her 25 year-old mother to WCA Hospital, in Jamestown, and was transported by air to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo where the baby died.
