A new grant is aimed at helping curb violence in the city of Rochester's northeast quadrant.

Action For a Better Community received more than $280,000 in state funds for anti-violence efforts. State Senator Ted O'Brien and Mayor Lovely Warren attended the ceremony. The mayor says this program differs from one currently in place. Specifically, the grant will look to stop gun violence in a particular segment of the city.

"We recognize we have a serious problem when it comes to our young people, especially young African-American and Latino males. This particular program is focused on dealing with that; trying to get to the root of the problem, trying to intervene before things actually happen," she said.

The grant and ABC's plan are based on the "Cure Violence" model originally developed in Chicago.
