Aquinas Elminated On Late TD

Lil' Irish fall in defensive battle against Orchard Park
Aquinas had a pass knocked away in the end zone on 4th down with less than a minute remaining as the Lil' Irish lost to Orchard Park 14-7 in the Class AA State Quarterfinals at All-High Stadium in Buffalo Saturday night.

Orchard Park held AQ to only 103 yards of total offense but the Irish were in the game until the final snap. The only Aquinas touchdown was set up by an electric 66 yard punt return from Isaiah Cox in the fourth quarter. Billy Lombardi cashed in from three yards out on a night where he only ran for 76 yards.

Aquinas lost the ball midway through the fourth quarter when they failed to cover an incomplete lateral. Orchard Park took over on its own 42 and scored on a 4th down 24 yard run from Mitch Wilson with 3:19 to play. The Irish moved the ball to the OP 23 yard line, but could not convert 4th and 7.

Orchard Park quarterback Ben Holmes accounted for 170 yards of total offense and the only points of the first half on a nifty 19 yard scramble.

Aquinas finished the season 7-4.
