A new camp experience this summer will allow young people who suffer from Celiac Disease to enjoy themselves without the fear of eating food that contains gluten.

The Celiac Strong Camp Director, Sabrina DeVos, discussed the new initiative Wednesday on News 8 at Noon.

DeVos, who was diagnosed with Celiac Disease when she was 6 years old, came up with the idea for the camp as part of her effort to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award.  DeVos has attended a camp for Celiac Disease sufferers in Rhode Island and wanted to bring the concept closer to home.  The Marion resident will hold the Celiac Strong Camp on August 1-3 at the Comstock Girl Scout Camp in Ithaca.

Boys and girls ages 8-15 with Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance are welcome.  A maximum of 60 campers will enjoy a stress free weekend, without any fear of cross contamination of food.
