Cellist Annie Jacobs-Perkins of Pittsford shared her passion for music Tuesday morning during News 8 at Sunrise.
Cellist Annie Jacobs-Perkins of Pittsford shared her passion for music Tuesday morning during News 8 at Sunrise.

Jacobs-Perkins was joined by her instructor Kathy Murphy Kemp from the Hochstein School of Music & Dance.

It's part of a big week for the Pittsford Mendon High School senior.  On Wednesday, March 19, Jacobs-Perkins will perform inside Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester as part of a taping of the popular National Public Radio show "From the Top."  The show casts as spotlight on talented aspiring musicians from around the country.

As part of her appearance on News 8 at Sunrise, Jacobs-Perkins played a brief piece of music on her cello.  She's been taking lessons at Hochstein since the age of five, and recently won another Hochstein Merit Scholarship.  Jacobs-Perkins will perform as part of the "Live from Hochstein" concert on Wednesday, March 26.

Ben Wensel, Katie Fittipaldi and Kemp are credited with aiding Jacobs-Perkins development.  Kemp, the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, said the 17 year old is way ahead of where she was at the same age.  When asked about Jacobs-Perkins' future as a cellist, Kemp said she can reach whatever height to which she aspires.

As for Jacobs-Perkins, she is still weighing her collegiate options.  Whatever the destination, her cello and the wonderful music she creates with it will accompany her.
