The Chesapeake Bayhawks
dealt the Rochester Rattlers their first home defeat 13-7 at Sahlen's
Stadium on Saturday, July 14. Bayhawk midfielder Michael Kimmel
finished with four assists and
a goal, and attackman Danny Glading added two assists and two goals.
Attackman Kevin Leveille led the Rattlers in points notching three
goals. The Rattlers now sit in fifth place on the MLL table, one game
behind Boston and Long Island, for the final playoff
spot. The loss ends the Rattler's three-game winning streak.
The first ten minutes
of the first quarter were scoreless between the Rattlers and Bayhawks.
After 11:42 of play the Bayhawks capitalized off a Rattler turnover when
John Grant Jr. scored on a low shot past
John Galloway. The Bayhawks won both face-offs and scooped up 10
groundballs to Rochester's six. Mike Manley, who was selected as the
third pick in this year's draft, solidified the Rattlers much improved
defense throughout the first.
The second quarter
started with a 23 second faceoff at the X that was won by the Bayhawks.
The Bayhawks scored their second goal of the half at 3:40 when Danny
Glading slid a shot into the corner of the net.
Bayhawk Dan Hostetler ripped a shot, passed by Michael Kimmel, just
inside the arc past Galloway at 4:02. The Rattlers ended their scoreless
drought at 5:55 when midfielder Brad Ross beat a defender and ripped a
side-armed shot in front of the net. At 8:45
Matt Abbot fired a laser past Galloway to extend the Bayhawks lead to
4-1. The Bayhawks scored again at 9:06 when Matt Mackrides scored an
unassisted goal. Stephen Boyle scored his 13th
goal of the season at 10:24 off a roll
around the crease. Former Duke blue devils connected at 11:19 when Kevin
Leveille scored off a Rob Rotanz pass. The Bayhawks stopped the
Rattlers three unanswered goals at 14:41 when Matt Abbot faked a shot
and dodged Rattler defenders and finished in front
of the net ending the half at 6-3.
The Bayhawks opened up
the scoring a minute into the second half when Glading took it from
behind the net and shot side-armed past Galloway. Rattler superstar Ned
Crotty tallied his first goal at 2:38 with a
shot after a bad pass from the Bayhawks. At 6:33 Drew Westervelt slotted
a shot past Galloway off of a perfect feed from Kimmel. Kimmel added a
goal at 8:45 after Grant tried a shot from behind the back. Leveille
scored off a pass from Ned Crotty at 10:39.
Bayhawks lead the Rattlers 9-5 after 45 minutes.
Leveille scored the
Rattlers first goal of the fourth quarter at 3:43 from 10 yards.
Westervelt answered with a goal of his own at 6:03. Roy Lang scored
after making two defenders miss and scoring with a jump
shot. Bayhawks All Star Kyle Dixon scored his 11th
2pg of the season at 8:27 off a pass from Kimmel. The Bayhawks scored
the final goal of the game at 12:30 when Ben Rubeor shot a low ball past
The Rattlers next home game is Friday, July 20th against Charlotte.
