The City of Rochester is trying to keep stray cats off of the bitter cold streets.

The "Frosty February Free Foster Feline" event was held Saturday afternoon at the city shelter on Verona Street. Visitors got to meet all the foster cats and adopt their favorites for free. Organizers were grateful that more than a dozen cats were adopted Saturday but they still want to make a very important point.

"When you take on an animal, whether it be a cat, dog, rabbit, you have to spay and neuter them to stop overpopulation not just here but anywhere," volunteer Crista Spampinato said.

The shelter is located at 184 Verona Street. Regular adoption hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
