Concert For St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center

The Rochester Medical Orchestra will be putting on a concert to raise money for the St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center this weekend, and it'll be a special day for two of the members.
It's a new chapter for both a father and his son.

While Stefan is finishing his career, Josh is just starting his, and it's their passion for music that is starting their new journey.

"I was very excited when Josh told me about this possibility, this father and son concert," says Stefan Reuss, the Principal Cello for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Rochester Medical Orchestra is putting on a concert to benefit the St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center, which provides healthcare, counseling and other medical services to the uninsured and underinsured.

Josh is a 4th year medical student, and like many of his classmates, has volunteered at the center nearly every Tuesday for the last four years.

"You really feel like you're making a difference, and at the same time it's something thats really helpful for you because you get a chance to be with patients, patients who are really grateful because they want to be here and have nowhere else to go," says Joshua Reuss, Stefan's son and member of the Rochester Medical Orchestra.

After four years, Josh is moving on with his medical career and from the RMO.

"Josh and Stefan decided they wanted to do something together, so we decided, in thinking about what we might do, to go with the father and son theme," says Michael Ruhling, Conductor for the RMO.

The orchestra will play pieces by father and son duos, including the Bachs and Johann Straus, Jr. and Sr.

Stefan is thrilled with all of his son's accomplishments. He goes on to say how Joshua has grown over the years. He not only plays beautifully, but now he's on his way to becoming a successful doctor.

"When we moved here in the Fall of 1988, Josh was 7-months-old, and this has been Joshua's life so far, this whole time," says Stefan. "To end my time with the RPO and his time at the medical school together, this is just wonderful."
