A long-time Rochester native has put himself in the race for Mayor Lovely Warren's former seat on city council.

Eugenio Cotto Jr. announced his candidacy for Rochester City Council Saturday. The seat is currently held by Democrat Mike Patterson. Cotto, also a Democrat, believes he has what it takes to win the Democratic endorsement.

"It's an honor to serve and to continue to serve my community and I'm hoping the people will elect me to be their next representative for Rochester's northeast quadrant," Cotto Jr. said.

Cotto believes education, economic development and public safety are key to make Rochester thrive.
