East Wins Eddie Meath Classic By Point

East team stops late two point conversion to win
The East team prevailed 28-27 at the 31st Eddie Meath All-Star game Saturday night at St. John Fisher by stopping a late two point conversion.

Brockport's Tom Sydeski hit Nick Prince from Hilton with a touchdown pass to pull the West within a point with 50 seconds to go. However, a false start penalty backed up the West to the 8 yard line for the winning conversion and they were not able to score.

Geneva's Shane Sweeney hit Alex Obenhofer with a 65 yard TD to put the East up 28-21 with five minutes to play. That touchdown came just 45 seconds after Denzel Knight's second score of the game evened the contest at 21. Knight also had a 72-yard run in the first quarter and a 13-yard touchdown reception from Hilton's DJ Logory in the third.

Eastridge grad Alec Mortillaro also had two TD's. His second came on a three yard run to open the fourth quarter and give the East a 21-13 lead.

Morillaro's first touchdown opened the scoring just three minutes into the game. Justin Washington from Batavia answered with a TD catch for the West after Knight's long run. R-H's Bay Barley closed the first half scoring with a short touchdown run as the East went to the locker room up 14-7.

It was the 9th straight year the East squad won the Eddie Meath game.
