Two female cousins who were brutally murdered inside a home on Chili Avenue were laid to rest Thursday.

Jacquelyn Simmons, 24, and Jermeliah Simmons were shot to death over a week ago. Their bodies and the body of Michael Nelson, 24, were all discovered by family members mid-morning. Friends and family members are praising the work of the Rochester Police Department in arrested people connected to the Simmons' deaths. That brought them some comfort as the women were eulogized.

Mourners fill the Mount Olivet Baptist Church where the women were celebrated with poems, songs and scripture readings. Six people were arrested last week on drug and weapons charges in a police raid that recovered the murder weapon. Friends and family say they were relieved when they heard the news of the arrests.

"We have two mothers; two very, very young mothers 21 and 24 years of age who have left children behind. Anyone that could do something so heinous shouldn't be a part of our community," Bishop Willie Davis said.

None of the six people arrested have been officially charged with any of the three murders. Local and federal prosecutors say the investigation is continuing.
