GRE Business Report: January 29th

A look at the top business headlines.
The Better Business Bureau has issued a national alert warning consumers about a new credit card scam. The organization is urging Americans to check their credit and debit cards for unexplained charges of $9.84. Apparently thieves think they can get away with charging thousands of cards smaller amounts instead of trying to steal larger amounts from fewer cards. The BBB say if you find small, unexplained charges on your card, report it and get a new card.

Ford Motor Company will pay out record profit sharing checks to members of the United Auto Workers Union after posting record profits in North America. About 47,000 hourly workers will get checks of approximately $8,800. Ford agreed to more generous profit sharing in the most recent labor agreement with the union. In return, veteran workers gave up an increase in their hourly pay rate.

Fox Run Vineyards in Penn Yan will be one of the Taste New York companies featured at the Super Bowl Host Committee events this week. Governor Andrew Cuomo is using the event to promote Taste New York products and tourism in upstate New York. In total, nearly 100 New York vendors will be featured across all of the Super Bowl Host Committee events.
