Henrietta Voted No on State Casino Proposition

Senecas may try to open a casino in the town.
Henrietta voters did not approve the statewide referendum allowing the expansion of non-Indian casinos.

The proposition was opposed by 4,085 Henrietta residents, compared to 3,648 residents who voted in favor. The percentage of people who voted no in Henrietta - 52.8 percent - was greater than the 50.1 who voted across Monroe County. Countywide, 63,174 people voted against the proposition and 62,815 voted in favor.

The Seneca Nation is preparing to buy land to locate a casino in Henrietta, according to Town Supervisor Jack Moore.

Statewide, the prosition to allow up to seven non-Indian casinos passed. None of them can be located in the Rochester area, which is covered by the Senecas' compact with the state.

In order for the Senecas to locate a casino in Henrietta, the state and federal governments would have to sign off. The Senecas' compact with the state would also have to be changed to allow an additional casino.
