Initial Scans Show that Jim Kelly is Cancer Free

He is awaiting a biopsy to confirm the initial test results.
Rochester, NY (WROC)-  Initial scans on Bills Hall of Fame quarterback showed that he is cancer free.  He is still awaiting a biopsy to confirm the initial test results.

Here is a statement from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City:

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly was evaluated yesterday at the New York Head & Neck Institute at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, three months after completing the radiation and chemotherapy protocol designed to treat his recurrent cancer.

“The great news is that upon physical examination, there is no evidence of the cancer,” said Peter Costantino, MD, Executive Director of the hospital’s New York Head & Neck Institute and a renowned skull-based surgeon. "The treatments so far have completely eliminated Mr. Kelly's pain and his level of function has essentially returned to normal.”

Mr. Kelly will now undergo a series of tests to determine if any further treatment will be necessary. Should treatment be required, it would likely consist of surgery followed by a form of highly focused radiation referred to as Gamma Knife Therapy. "It is possible that no further treatment will be required, and the testing over the next week will define this issue," Dr. Costantino said.

Here is the complete tweet sent out by Jim Kelly's wife Jill Kelly today:

"We have come away from our checkup visit in NYC encouraged and hopeful. Preliminary scan results have necessitated the need for biopsies to be done in order to confirm what we hope to be true...that the cancer has been eradicated. We will not know the outcome until this procedure is completed. And so... We continue to PRAY, rejoice, live...wait and trust GOD who holds ALL things together. God, who is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End and every moment in between. In the midst of it all, I know He's got this. Thank you for praying! Thank you for holding us up during this time. We are so grateful for you! #prayersforjk #kellytough
