A wounded warrior from Rochester received a homecoming to remember at Rochester's airport Friday.

Army Specialist Danny Fittos was injured in Afghanistan. Fittos was fighting with the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan when he was hit by a mortar. That was at the end of May. After much rehab at Walter Reed Medical Center he returned home to family and a lot of strangers.

Fittos walked off a plane at Rochester's airport and into the arms of family and strangers.

"Welcome home! I love you," said his excited aunt Pamela Christian.

"We are proud, we are very proud, we have the greatest country in the world," volunteer Lou Mazziotti.

Patriot Guard riders and members of the Veterans Outreach Center came to say thanks and lend a hand.

"If you need anything, call us," one told him.

For a 21-year-old wrestling with a war injury, it is a shock.

"A little bit, a little bit overwhelming," he said.

Danny was hurt when sharpnel Form A mortat pierced his body. But he talks about it with a sense of humor.

"I was in Afghanistan for a couple months and a rocket i tried stopping a rocket with my hip - so it hurt me," Fittos said.

His mom worries every day, but not today. She says the community support keeps them together.

"I am not mourning the loss, I am praising the survival," she said. "To know that it's not just family that supports all of our military, it's very overwhelming."

Danny says he is a very lucky soldier and a proud one.

"Having the support from everyone kind of makes you feel like a hero. Everybody wants to be a hero," he said.

"He is a very good soldier, I am so proud of him, he is my hero," his aunt Pamela said.

Danny's mom says he is only on a 30-day leave. He still has more rehabilitation to do. Danny is one of the guests of honor at the 2nd Annual Wounded Warrior Concert, hosted by the Greece American Legion and the New York Warrior Alliance.
