Rochester's JCC CenterStage will present Larry Kramer's "The Normal Heart" March 8-23.

JCC Artistic Director Ralph Meranto and Erik Libey of Trillium Health discussed the play Friday on News 8 at Noon.

"The Normal Heart" is a Tony Award winning play set in the early days of the HIV-AIDS crisis from 1981 to 1984.  It illuminates the struggles of a group of friend who work to gain the attention of the medical community, politicians and the media in New York City.  Meranto said thirty years later the themes of fear and ignorance still resonate.

The play is being presented in conjunction with LGBT Health Month and most performances will feature post-show discussion and events with representatives of Trillium Health, Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, Mocha Center, Rochester Victory Alliance, Empire State Pride Agenda, NY Civil Liberties Union, Gay-Straight Alliance Coalition, HCR Home Care, Rochester Gay Men's Chorus and more.  For more information, click here.
