The Lincoln School principal was nominated for a News 8 Golden Apple Aware by the entire Lincoln School family.

"I'm honored and privileged," he said. "You know I get to wake up every morning and do something I love; and it's a special place, this Lincoln School."

Mr. Hemelinck knows what it's like for students at Lincoln School in Newark. He grew up in this same school and after years of hard work, he is now living a dream working here.

"As some people know around the area, this was my school. It's quite a special place to me. It continues to be a special place to me and I'm sure it always will; and what make it is the people," he said.

"It's always is this the best for the kids," Jeff's mentor Christine Mizro said. "That's his motto and that's what he's lived by. He values education. he's worked to get his own education and he instills that in the kids."

"Jeff is one of those people whose compassion for students and kids is unparalleled, literacy coach Robin Uveges said. "He is an amazing leader, an amazing person and anyone is better off for having worked with him."

Below you will find the letter sent in recommending Mr. Hemelinck for the Golden Apple Award.

Dear News 8,

Jeffrey Hamelinck is no longer a Kindergarten teacher. His roots in education at Lincoln School started many years ago as a primary student. After graduating from our Newark Central Schools Jeff became a Kindergarten teacher in Newark for several years. His next endeavor was as an Assistant Administrator to Ms. Mizro at Kelley School for four years. Last year was his first year at Lincoln School as our Principal.

Our Lincoln School Family would like to recognize Mr. Hamelinck as a Golden Apple Award Winner.
Jeff has such a strong sense of family that he extends to the children, families, Lincoln School staff and Newark community. He is an amazing teacher, colleague, administrator, parent, father and friend to all. He takes the time to know every child's name in our building and shows them how much he cares. He makes amazing connections with children that will last a lifetime!
His perseverance, determination and dedication to education shines through as he helps guide and educate parents, teachers and children every day.
Mr. Hamelinck is an inspiration to us all as he continues to craft new and exciting ways to help our Lincoln School Family be the best we can be!

We thank Mr. Hamelinck for caring about our Lincoln School Family and look forward to him guiding us through the next 100 years at Lincoln School.

Sincerely,

The Lincoln School Family
