The Rochester Knighthawks stormed back in the second half to outscore the Rock 12-3 en route to a thrilling 17-12 victory at the Air Canada Centre. It was a night of milestones for Rochester in the road win over the Rock, who swept the three-game series against Toronto.
Rochester matched its season-high for goals in a game, which occurred its last trip to the ACC in February. Cody Jamieson provided the spark with four straight goals in the third quarter to tie the contest at nine. He finished the night with a career-high 11 points (4+11). Dan Dawson also had a memorable game, notching his 1,000th career point in the second quarter and ending the contest with one goal and seven assists.
Stephen Keogh had a career-best five assists in tying his career high with seven points. Johnny Powless also chipped in two goals and three assists to celebrate his 21st birthday in style.
Defensively, Scott Self reached a milestone, playing in his 200th pro game. In goal, Angus Goodleaf got the win by stopping 27 of 31 shots. He held the Rock scoreless for over 16 minutes, which spanned the final minutes of the second quarter and ended just prior to the conclusion of the third quarter. He allowed just three goals in the second half.
Rochester also got support on defense from Ian Llord, who blocked five shots, and Brad Self, who scored a key goal in transition before the end of the first half. Mac Allen was a physical force in causing turnovers and blocking several shots. Dylan Evans played tough defense and won 58 percent of the faceoffs.
The K-Hawks trailed 9-4 late in first half and got a goal from Brad Self to make it 9-5.
Whatever Mike Hasen said at the half should be written down for future generations to enjoy.
Jamieson's run was just the beginning. Including Self's second quarter goal, Rochester went on a 13-1 run to take a 17-10 lead late in the 4th quarter.
After tonight’s game, the team will fly to Philadelphia. On Sunday, the Knighthawks (8-3) will face the Wings at 4:00 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center.
