Lilac Festival Parking

With the Lilac Festival just days away, the park isn't the only thing worth prepping.

A field along Goodman Street is one of three places the public can park for the Lilac Festival. The field is currently wet and muddy but festival organizers hope things will dry out by the start of the fest on Friday.

"With the dry weather we have had this week I'm sure things are starting to dry out quite a bit," festival spokeswoman Randi Minetor said.

Organizers encourage festival goers to be prepared and wear sneakers. Parking is also available off of Elmwood Avenue and off of South Avenue near the park. It is free during the week befreo 3 p.m. and $5 after 3 p.m. and on the weekends. If the weather cooperates parking could become a problem during peak times on the weekend.

"It does get very, very busy," Minetor said. "This is an extraordinarily popular festival. Half a million people come every year."

Since large crowds are expected, once again, there will be a weekend shuttle service running from MCC to the festival. Parking at the college is free and then the shuttle ride costs $1. The service runs from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
