Local Delegates Journey to Charlotte for DNC

The Democratic National Convention is going on all week in Charlotte, North Carolina
The Democratic National Convention is going on all week in Charlotte, North Carolina. Not a whole lot of official business happening Monday. Instead it was mostly a day for delegate welcoming parties, Labor Day celebration, and a chance to get to know the city.

Although some may wonder why Charlotte was chosen as the location, there are actually a number of reasons.

Charlotte is a growing city in the south with a number of major companies that have helped drive the national economy. Charlotte is also home to a couple of professional sports teams and is the official home of NASCAR.

Ken Preston, the Grassroots Organizer for Obama's Campaign had this to say about the city:

"I like it, I'm hoping to take in a lot of the cultural flavor."

More of the official business will really get started Tuesday, with a number a speeches slated for that night. Those speaking include former President Jimmy Carter and current First Lady Michelle Obama.
