An elementary school nurse who has been taking care of children for decades will now be taking time to care for herself.

Mary Bunting is retiring from Brooks Hill Elementary School in Fairport after 30 years on the job. School staff members threw a surprise staff luncheon for Mrs. Bunting Friday.

"It's been everything, it's been my whole being, family friends and work it's been a part of my life, a big part of my life," she said.

"I think the kids know when they go down to see Mary they're not only going to receive whatever medical care they need but emotional support as well," principal Steve Kenny said.

She has been responsible for the care of more than 20,000 students and staff over the past 30 years.
