Many Without Power During Tuesday Storms

As many as 9,000 people were without power in the Rochester area during heavy storms Tuesday evening, according to RG&E.
The second round of severe weather Tuesday left thousands of people in the dark, with weather related damage throughout the area.
In the town of Gates, Elmgrove Road between Rt. 531 and Lyell Avenue will remain closed through Wednesday afternoon because of downed power lines.  At the height of the storm Tuesday night, the power lines came down and trapped motorists in their cars.   Four people travelling in three cars did the right thing - because when the live wires came down, they stayed in their cars.  Firefighters worked with RG&E to turn off power, and help the motorists get out of their vehicles.

Meantime - more than 10,000 throughout the region lost power.  In Monroe County, RG&E says more than 8000 customers lost power.  In Ontario County, some 2900 customers lost power - and in Wayne County, more than 700.
