The City of Rochester is taking steps to help improve public safety.

Mayor Lovely Warren and Police Chief Michael Ciminelli took part in a community forum on Saturday. The topic was improving public safety through personal responsibility. Community members had the opportunity to meet with the city leaders to discuss ways to solve problems in Rochester. One of the biggest issues addressed at the forum was combatting violence in the city.

"Trying to get people to address their disputes in a different way is a big issue, which is something I think a training process helps," Rochester resident James Norman said. "It has to go on in our schools, churches, our homes and in our community centers."

The public forum is sponsored by the Rochester Association of Black Journalists. It is the first of a series of community discussions that will be held this year.
