Monroe County Sheriff's Office Teen Police Celebrate Graduation

Students in the program say it helped prepare them for a future career in law enforcement.
Students from across the area are learning what it takes to have a career in law enforcement.  Dozens of teens graduated from the Monroe county sherriff office's "teen police academy" today.

A ceremony was held at the public safety training facility on Scottsville road.  During the program, students got hands-on experience doing training exercises and even took classes on things like defense tactics.  One graduate, Marianna Santos, says she's learned a lot from this experience, "It was pretty intense, good stuff.  I didn't understand how much heart and comittment it takes to be in law enforcement and this was an eye-opening experience to kind of set me up for what's going to happen in the long run."

The sheriff's office plans to have another academy next year.
