A new center is welcome news for about 80 dialysis patients in the Rochester area.
Monroe Community Hospital cut the ribbon on its new outpatient dialysis center on Tuesday morning. The space is leased from the hospital by New York State Dialysis Services.
The 16-station dialysis center was created because of overcrowding at local hospitals. A report last year recommended that nursing homes open dialysis centers to treat patients in house, and help ease congestion at hospitals.
The center can treat about 100 patients a week, and 20 residents at MCH are on dialysis.
