The family of missing Gates-Chili teen Brittanee Drexel is awaiting words if skeletal remains found in Myrtle Beach belong to her.

The Horry County Police Department says the remains were found near where the teen was last seen, but cannot confirm whether the findings are human remains. They were discovered around 12:40 p.m. Saturday in a remote area. Horry County Coroner Robert Edge confirmed to News 8 later Monday afternoon that the remains are human. They will soon be sent off to a lab in Texas for DNA testing and analysis by an anthropologist. Drexel disappeared while on spring break in April 2009. Police tracked her cell phone to an isolated area after Drexel's boyfriend texted her and she did not respond.
