Rhinos Lose Second Straight

Richmond scores early, then shuts door
The Rochester Rhinos are now 6-2-2 after losing to the Richmond Kickers 1-0 at Sahlen's Stadium on Friday, June 2.  The Kickers scored in the 5th minute after a shot by Nozomi Hioyama hit the crossbar from 19 yards and was headed in by midfielder Luke Vercollone.
 
In the 30th minute Quavas Kirk was given a yellow card for a strong tackle on Shane Johnson.  The Rhinos came close to leveling the score in the winding seconds of the 45th minute after a free kick from Danny Earls from 30 yards was saved from diving Kickers goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale.
 
Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale had eight saves through the first 45 minutes, and finished the night with 10 saves.

The Rhinos started the second half with Drew Cost subbing in for Jack Traynor. The team switched to a 4-3-3 in the 61
st minute with Thomas McManus in the middle, Conor Chinn on right, and Tyler Rosenlund on Mcmanus' flank. Yellow cards were given to Drew Cost in the 61st min and Lucas Fernandez in the 90th minute.
The Rhinos loss to the Kickers ends a stretch of six matches in 15 days for the Rhinos, five of those matches taking place in the last eight days. The Rhinos finished the stretch 1-3-2 after starting the season with a clean sheet 6-0.  The Rhinos dropped their first points of the season to the Dutch Lions on Friday May 18th, and then lost their first match of the season 1:0 on Friday May 25th in Harrisburg against the City Islanders.                          
Rhino's first year coach Jesse Myers, a former assistant coach with the Richmond Kickers for 15 seasons, had his first loss against his former team.  During Myer's tenure in Richmond the team had a regular season record of 212-105-57.  The Kickers qualified for the playoffs in 14 of Myers' 15 seasons.  Richmond also played in seven USL finals and won championships in 2006 and 2009 during his tenure.  
The next Rhinos home game is June 8th at 7 PM versus the Wilmington Hammerheads.
