Ruth Scott Pens Memoir

Rochester political pioneer shares life story and inspiration.
Rochester's first City Council President, Ruth Scott, has written her memoir.

"The Circles God Draws" chronicles her life going to a segregated school through her political career. As an African American woman, Scott draws on her experiences with racial and gender discrimination. She also talks about overcoming challenges to succeed.

Scott ran for mayor in 1993 and lost. Twenty years later, another black woman who was City Council president ran and won. Scott has given advice to Mayor Lovely Warren.

Scott talked about her book on News 8 First at 4. Click the video above to watch. The book is available in The Library Store at the Central Library, Lift Bridge Books, and Mood Maker's Book Store. It can also be ordered here.
