Scholastic Arts Spotlight: Tyler Hecht

Meet a Wayne Central student who has the acting chops to make it big.
Tyler Hecht is a junior in high school but he's already played lead roles in more than a dozen plays and musicals.  He currently cast as Nathan Detroit in the Wayne Central production of Guys and Dolls, "" I think I just like that I get to be a different person.  I'm a very shy and awkward person in normal life, so it's nice to be outgoing and crazy and funny on stage."

During our visit, Tyler performed a solo for us.  He loves musical theater, with an emphasis on acting, "" It's come easier for me than singing.  I work a lot at singing.  I work a lot at dancing.  But acting usually comes easier for me."  Kathy Perconti, a teacher at Wayne Central, said, "" He's an amazing young man.  He's very humble and shy, but I noticed as a freshman when we were doing 'Crazy for You' he took a little bit part, you know most kids don't get into the character.  But there was just a spark in him, so I saw it right when he was a freshman."

Tyler is a staple in neighborhood and community theater.  He's also a leader in his school's choral groups and he's already got his eye on life after high school, "My dream career would definitely be making a living in theater."

Much to the joy of audiences, Tyler Hecht says he's sticking with theater.
