Several People Critically Injured in Circus Accident

None of the injuries are considered life threatening.
A horrified audience witnessed an accident that at first appeared to be part of Sunday's performance of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey circus in Providence, Rhode Island.  What looked like a chandelier of circus performers, acrobats hanging by their ponytails in an act called "the hair hang", fell as much as 40 feet to the ground when the structure that was holding them collapsed.  The eight aerial performers, as well as several others on the ground, were taken to the hospital.  They are in critical condition but their injuries are not life threatening.
Local, state and federal officials will investigate the cause of what happened inside the arena. The company says its workers adhere to a variety of regulations and all of their equipment is inspected before the show goes on.
