Teen Empowerment Executive Director of Rochester Programs Doug Ackley and former TE Youth Organizer Majahzi Jacque discussed the event Monday on News 8 at Noon.
Ackley said Teen Empowerment is a youth organizing project that hires young people to employ their talents and skills to organize events and activities around the community. Those events look at the serious issues young people are facing and enable the Youth Organizers to use their voices and motivate their peers to try to create movements for positive change.
Jacque, who attends RIT, said the most impactful part of his experience with Teen Empowerment was the Male/Female Dialogues he helped organize where men and women discussed gender roles and how they interacted with each other.
The "On the Rise" luncheon will honor Jackie Campbell, Assistant Commissioner for the Department of Recreation and Youth Services for the City of Rochester, with the Champion for Youth Leadership Award. It will also honor Mike Boucher, Co-Director of Counseling and Community Work for the St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center, with the Peacemaker in Action Award.
The opening performance at the luncheon will puts the talents of TE's Youth Organizers on display for all to see.
The Teen Empowerment "On the Rise" 2014 Annual Community Luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $50 (table of 10 $400) with limited seating still available. For more information, call Teen Empowerment at 697-3464 or, click here.
