John DiMarco II of The DiMarco Group discussed a plan to bring Bass Pro Shops to a new development in Victor Wednesday morning in our Why ROC interview.

The DiMarco Group purchased 96 acres of land in Victor as an investment.  Bass Pro Shops will anchor a mixed-use development at Fisher's Ridge.  The outdoor retailer, specializing in hunting, fishing, camping and other related outdoor gear, is expected to construct a 145,000 square foot store.

This will be the company's third store in New York and the first large-format store.  It's expected create 300 jobs.  In addition, 116 million people currently visit Bass Pro's 85 stores nationwide each year.  DiMarco expects that influx of people to Fisher's Ridge will create a ripple economic benefit in the area.

DiMarco said the Rochester area is an ideal location for Bass Pro because it is centrally located around prospective customers in Buffalo, Syracuse and the Finger Lakes.  According to the 2010 census, the six-county area in and around Rochester has a combined population of more than a million people.  The state ranks third in overall economic impact of outdoor recreation participation in hunting and fishing, with nearly two million people enjoying those activities.  More than 90,000 vehicles will pass by the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Store each day en route to the area's many outdoor opportunities.

The Bass Pro Shops at Fisher's Ridge has a tentative opening date of 2016.
